It’s a high-fashion win for the Wonder from Down Under!
Ralph Lauren has chosen gorgeous Australian model Robyn Lawley is the first ever plus-size model.
The 6’2, 23 year-old beauty appeared on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday to talk about how she’s achieved modeling success by staying true to herself.
Still, Lawley wouldn’t reveal her weight when interviewer Elizabeth Vargas dared to inquire.
“I’m a size 12,” she answered politely. “And I don’t think weight really has much to do with anything.”
The Wilhelmina-repped beauty looked stunning in a skin tight glittery dress by McQ, the lower priced line by Alexander McQueen.
She said that when she began modeling at the age of 16, the pressure to keep her weight down was unbearable.
“It was sucha battle for me, I’m big-boned, I’m tall and and I’m broad,” she said. “I was lucky to start plus-size modeling.
She admitted that she did some dangerous things to stay thin before she saw the light.
“No one was really worried about me at thetime,” she said. “They just thought it was the way for me to become a model.”
She gave up modeling and moved to France where she fell in love -- with food.
“I came back much bigger than than I was,” she said. But then saw plus-size models doing well. I decided I want that, I want to be in magazines.”
She signed with a plus-sized modeling agency in Australia and the rest was history.
In August, Lawley told the News that she believes the whole “plus-size” label should be retired.
“I believe it's a tag we should do without,” she said. “It segregates us from the mainstream fashion world, which means we only go to castings and jobs when our size is requested.”
Lawley also said that designers should keep their customers in mind when they present their fashions.
“I believe all runways and print pieces should use an array of sizes," she said. "After all, who is buying the clothes in the end?”
Lawley has something in common with another voluptous beauty: the singer Adele.
When rumors began swirling that the British singer would be collaborating with Burberry on a plus-sized line, Lawley tweeted her enthusiasm: “Yes :D. Read more here via NY Daily News
